Web Browser Control Panel - Pro Account
(for accounts created before 10/2001)

All of our Unix based pro-series accounts now come with a control panel feature that controls email box creation, email forwarding, email alias creation and password maintenance.  The control panel automatically alters the .domains file that resides in your account, so if you use the control panel you should leave the .domains file alone and of course never delete it.

To access your control panel point your web browser to the following address:

http://yourdomainname.com:911

So, if your domain name was basket.net, you would point your browser to:

http://basket.net:911

A username and password box will pop up automatically.  Enter your website account's main username and password and you will gain access to the control panel.  If a username and password box does not pop up then the control panel feature has not been installed into your server yet.  This is a new feature and we hope to have it installed into all servers by the beginning of the year 2000.

Simply double-click on the password icon.  Enter the new password you want carefully twice.  Note:  this will change your main website account password as well as the password to your main account mailbox.  Make sure to write down your password for safe keeping.

After changing your main account password you will need to logon to the control panel again.  You may have to shut down your web browser and re-load to accomplish this.

Note:  All Passwords must be at least ten digits long and contain numbers and number and lower case letters for security reasons.

Click on the pop-accounts icon.  Each of your email boxes is numbered in relation to your username.  For instance, if your username is max your mailboxes will be numbers like follows (max, max2, max3, etc).  Simply highlight the mailbox you want to change the password for and then press "password".  Enter your new password for that mailbox twice.

Please note that if your first mailbox (ie max) is your main account mailbox.  If you alter your password for this mailbox you will also alter your main website account password.  Keep this in mind.  Also, never delete your main account mailbox.

Click on the email addresses icon.  Then click on add.  Enter the name of the mailbox you want to create (for example let's say rabbit@yourdomain.com) and press continue. On the next screen click on NEW POP ACCOUNT and ignore all other fields as shown and then press submit.  Now you will be taken to the password page.  Assign a new password to your mailbox and press submit.  Your finished, press on exit and your new box is ready and operational.

Please note that although the email address people will send to will be called rabbit@yourdomain.com (for example), you must use your mailbox number when retrieving email through a POP email program.  In this case, if your main account username is max and your domain name is yourdomain.com and mailbox rabbit is your third email box, then you would use POP setting max3@mail.yourdomain.com to retrieve your email for box rabbit.

NOTE WELL: Pro accounts come with unlimited mailboxes free (including your primary one).  Space your mailboxes take up are a part of your disk space allotment. Creation of a mailbox beyond your allotted amount will result in additional charges to your account.

Click on the pop-account icon.  Highlight the mailbox number you want to delete and press delete.  Never delete your main account mailbox.  If you created any aliases for this mailbox number then you may want to click on the mailboxes icon and delete them at this time.

An email alias is basically a name, such as anynamehere@yourdomain.com which points to a physical mailbox or is forwarded to an external email address off of our servers. Email sent to this alias goes to the location you specify automatically.  You can create as many aliases as you want and point them wherever you want.

Click on the email addresses icon.  Click on add.  Specify the name of the alias to create (for example anynamehere) and press continue.  The next screen (shown) asks you where the alias should point to.  You can point it to an existing mailbox in your account, a brand new mailbox or forward it to an email address of our servers.  Choose what you want and press submit.

You will now be taking back to the same screen.  Aliases can point to multiple locations at once.  For instance, you can have emails going to alias anynamehere@yourdomain.com forwarded to two locations at once!  If you would like to specify an additional location for mail to be sent to for this alias, enter it...otherwise click on exit.

Click on the email addresses icon.  Select the alias to delete and then follow the instructions provided.  Note: never delete the root alias, or your primary mailbox alias which will appear as your_account_username@yourdomain.

An email box or alias can be forwarded to any external email location.  Click on the email addresses icon.  Click on an alias or mailbox and press exit.  Select the "forward" option, enter the email address to forward to, and press submit.

Entries with the "#" symbol are autoresponders.  Refer to the autoresponder documentation section for information on how to use them.  Deleting them will delete your autoresponders.

In the event someone is spamming you (sending repeated mailings to a certain address) to the point which it is crippling your system, you can set any mailbox to point to forward the the alias of nobody.  This is a virtual trashcan and all mail directed to this alias will be discarded.  Refer to the "email forwarding" sections of your documentation for further information.

Click on the comments icon.  Enter your comments or bug report.  Note, that this is not normal account technical support.  You will not receive a reply back.  This area is only meant to report possible bugs or give feedback on the control panel system.  If you need help or technical support with anything in your account, go to the regular technical support relay at http://www.webcs.com/email.
