On NT, we support standard: Access or MySQL (when requested before
setup). MS SQL Server (SQL 7 or SQL 2000) is also available for a
fee since its use must be registered with Microsoft. (depending on your
account level). For an ODBC database setup please contact our support
department with a installation request.
When you upload a new database, place it in this directory, and
then use your control panel to
establish an ODBC datasource connection to your database.
What is a DSN?
DSN stands for Datasource Name. It is the "short-hand" method used
within languages such as Cold Fusion and ASP to simply connect to your
database without providing the full directory path or server name to
the database. To setup a DSN, goto your online control panel.
ACCESS
SPECIFIC DOCS:
Where should my Access database be placed?
Your database should be located within your d:\Databases\domainname
directory. Please note that we strongly recommend against placing your
database within your standard HTML directories for security reasons.
How do I manage my Access
database with Visual Interdev?
You can use Microsoft's Visual Interdev to connect remotely to your
database. You may also modify the Access database on your local
computer and upload the new version to the server, overwriting the
version already there. If you choose to do this, please make sure to
first shut down your site via the Control Panel. Also make sure to make
a copy of the "old" database before copying over it with the new
version.
Why do I get a "Data Source Name
not Found?
Either you have misspelled the name of your datasource within your
programming code or your database has become corrupted.
Please make sure that the name of the datasource is the same within the
server code and the control panel. It must be spelled exactly the same
otherwise you will receive this error.
If you suspect your Access database is corrupt,
please download the database to your local machine and attempt to use
Microsoft Access to open the database. You may receive a message that
your database is corrupt or it is not an Access database. If you can
open it, please use the Access database tools to compact and repair the
database.
SQL SERVER SPECIFIC DOCS
What version of MS SQL Server do you use?
SQL Server 7.0.
How Much SQL Server Space Do I Get?
Customers who select the SQL Server option receive an initial 50MB
database with a 10MB log file. Additional space is available as
necessary at our standard disk space overage fees.
Can I setup multiple databases with my allotted
SQL Server Storage space?
No, each database requires its own disk space. The space from one
database may not be shared with another.
How Many SQL Logins Can I Have?
You can have one administrative login that is given DBO access to your
database. You can also have a second "user" login created for your
applications. If you want to create this second login, please let
support know the type of rights the login should have to the database.
How Do You Backup Your SQL Servers?
Our staff backups the database once a day. A full backup of the
database is created to tape and a full copy of the database is created
to disk. We keep only 1-2 disk based backups while we keep up to 30
days to tape backups for the SQL Server.
